WHAT MAKES A "GOOD" PROTEIN BAR? 

 

When evaluating 42 protein bars, I have to keep things simple!  Watch our video (above) for our chart overview but for now, I am sharing my 3 main rules when evaluating protein bars.  Instead of hyper-focusing on calories, it is so much more important to read the ingredients and be mindful of the protein sources and sugar grams.

  • #1 PROTEIN RULE:  No soy protein!  Soy protein is horrible for your digestive tract, your hormones, and your metabolism.  Most bars that I investigated are made from soy protein isolate – yuck!  If you have digestive issues, I also do not recommend whey protein however some people are able to tolerate it. 
  • #2 SUGAR RULE:  Try to keep sugar grams under 10! Unfortunately, most protein bars contain a lot of sugar, comparable to candy bars.  On the other hand, many bars these days minimize sugar (and total carbs) to fit the keto mold.  This too is damaging to your metabolism.  
  • #3 INGREDIENTS RULE:  Make sure to read the ingredients and that you can pronounce them all.  Avoid artificial sweeteners, additives, and preservatives.  I am ok with  small amounts of stevia and monk fruit extract but be careful of the overuse of sugar alcohols.

Bars are awesome but let's get real... We can't live on protein bars!

 

Even though most people know how to eat “healthy”, they still struggle.  People always tell me…
